[S1 E30] Hot Take Summer: Talk dairy to me. Should you actually be avoiding it?

What’s the deal with dairy?

Dairy has been a part of our lives for centuries, but these days, it seems like dairy is getting mixed reviews, with some folks singing its praises while others are opting for dairy-free alternatives. And this makes it the perfect topic for another episode in our Hot Take Summer series!

As you probably know by now, I believe in keeping an open mind and finding what works best for each of us individually. So, in this episode, we'll sift through the facts and myths surrounding dairy consumption, and I'll dish out some science-backed information to help you make informed decisions about your dairy choices. As always, we'll take a balanced approach, looking at the potential benefits, possible concerns, and alternatives for those with lactose sensitivities or a dairy-free lifestyle.

*This podcast episode contains discussions about dieting, weight loss, and related topics. We recognize that these discussions can be sensitive and potentially triggering for some individuals. Quotes:

Your nutrition is medicine or poison, it's dependent on how you manage your lifestyle with what you eat.

You get to mold your child's gut at the beginning of their life.

75% of the world's population is genetically unable to properly digest milk and other dairy products.

How dairy is produced makes a big difference because most of the milk, butter, cheese, etc. comes from conventionally raised cows. That means it contains elevated levels of antibiotics and growth hormones.

Intolerances and allergies are very different. Intolerances just mean that your body doesn't react very well. Allergies mean you actually legitimately get a life-threatening histamine reaction to that substance.

Your body needs fats. Do not avoid fats. For most females, I would say anyone should have 10 grams all the way up to 25 grams of fat per meal, if you're having three or four meals a day,

If you are having any chronic health challenges and are struggling to pinpoint which foods are contributing to the problem, work with a functional medicine practitioner who is well-rated in your area and look at your diet in the bigger picture to get the appropriate testing.
