[S1 E5] All about HIIT: myths, fads, and how to do it right for maximum benefits

Let’s talk about HIIT

Today, we are talking about a topic that’s been quite popular in the fitness world over the last couple of years and that is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) aka a training protocol alternating periods of maximal effort with light exercise or rest.

Orange Theory, CrossFit, Peloton - we’ve all heard about, and probably tried, these HIIT classes and the amazing benefits they bring: rapid weight loss, increased fitness levels, improved stamina…the list goes on and on. But how realistic is this?

In this episode, I dive deep into the topic of HIIT classes - the science behind it, the proper way to incorporate it into your workout routine, and who is (and more importantly, who isn’t!) a good candidate for this type of class.

Quotes:

Turn the leaderboard off. Race against you.

Use exercise as a celebration and a love note to your body.

Do not set yourself up for failure by picking something that is not going to be sustainable.

All exercise is stress but how much of it you do and how you use it is what determines how your body is going to react over time.
