[S1 E6] Rest Period: Seven tips for women new to the gym

Navigating a gym as a beginner can be scary…

…and those of us who have a lot of experience in the gym sometimes take for granted the unspoken gym etiquette and general understanding we picked up along the way.

So, in today’s episode I want to share with you some tips I have learned that can help you better approach scenarios that you are most likely going to come across at least one time in your gym-going experience. Hopefully, you will come out of this episode a little more confident and with skills from a seasoned gym goer in your back pocket, so that you can go into the gym a little more confidently.

In today’s episode, we cover:

  • [00:02:05] Don’t be afraid of weight area

  • [00:06:22] Invest in a personal trainer for a few sessions to learn foundational techniques

  • [00:08:56] Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself to lift heavier

  • [00:10:42] Gym etiquette as a female: hold your space

  • [00:13:01] Sharing is caring but don’t feel like you need to rush

  • [00:18:55] How to deal with negativity in the gym.

Quotes:

You need to push yourself out of your comfort zone, because if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you - is true for weightlifting.

You will not get all big and bulky from weight lifting and, especially not from lifting heavier.

There is no reason that you cannot use certain equipment, just because you feel less skilled at using it.

It's not about how you look in the gym, it's how you look outside of the gym.
